As we get closer to Thanksgiving, and the joy of spending time with family, here's a poem to share with your parents. I wrote it for my parents more than a decade ago. The words and sentiment are still true today. Enjoy.
Thanks

We thank you for the cinnamon you sprinkled on our toast
And for those extra prayers at night, we know who loves us most.
Many thanks for years of “little things” you did without complaining
And for the times you drove us home from school when it was raining.
In springtime, thanks to you for hitting fly balls in the air
While other parents made excuses, you were always there.
Through summers spent on baseball fields in 88 degrees
With summer night piano lessons – “Look, 88 keys!”
We never knew the sacrifices made on our behalf
In times when money was so tight we still found time to laugh.
Those years of struggle, discipline and faithful dedication
You did endure, just to ensure, our college education.
When autumn winds of change seemed to blow by with chilling frost
You stood protectively beside us, loving at all cost.
Now winter is upon you and your children can attest
Through all those years of parenting you always tried your best.
We give our thanks for families who share with one another
The true Thanksgiving spirit of a father and a mother.
Please share this poem with your own parents. Let them know how special they really are. - MRG
