I learned a valuable lesson of blogging last week - I had this entire post drafted within the Ning text editor and forgot to click 'publish' before I boarded a flight to Costa Rica. I was fortunate to travel with my MacBook Air and Ted was quick to jump on it when we got to our hotel. Needless to say he closed the browser and I lost my post - hay dios mio! So this month's post is a bit delayed, but better late than never...
March Madness. Most of our members have kept very busy with projects, networking, attending events and personal branding - blogging, tweeting, facebooking, etc.
As I mentioned in my last post, we've put together a brief overview of doterati's first year in the making. It's a brief video embedded below for your viewing. Don't forget to check out the reference links.
March's happy hour was hosted at Fiddler's Green in Winter Park. The doterati crew was up for getting into the St. Patty's Day spirit a bit early while networking and tweeting the night away.
Our educational event, "It's Hard Being Human: Social Media & You" was the first in a series of 3 brought to us by Steve Spalding of Crossing Gaps Consulting. He'll be back in April and May to cover two additional relevant topics. Check out the past event section for Steve's deck and pictures from the event.
TweetUp at Ember. Check out the event page for pictures and tweets from the night. Keep in mind that we've decided to change up the dates on our happy hours - they will now be recurring the first THURSDAY of every month. Thanks again to Adam Wiggall for some great photos. I especially like the shot of the group from overhead.
We recognize that the economy has been tight, so we decided to put one of our two April educational events for free to both our members and nonmembers. Gregg Pollack moderated Battle the Web Frameworks with special guests David Rogers, Joshua Blount and Jason Skipper. Stay tuned for coverage of this event.
There are also quite a few events being hosted by our partners and the community at large this month.
I'm happy to introduce this month's doterati member spotlight, Rob Williams:
doterati member interview
name: Rob Williams occupation: Internet & Social Media Strategist industry: Web Consulting, Interactive Digital Communications twitter bio: "Web strategist, consultant, social mediaist, blogger, lifestreamer, web tutor, marketer, photographer, etc..." (Facebook is more random: "Fairly good coffee cooker, better coffee consumer, rarely a coffee spiller, never a drinker of non-black coffee.") little known fact about me: Over-ripe bananas make me cough. what I always have in my briefcase: Don't have one, but usually have paper, pen, folder, and my dumb-phone. Used to have a chrome NASA Bullet Pen but I lost it. why I joined doterati: Meeting like-minded local folks, events, and to give away whatever I can. advice for future members: There is a lot of knowledge and experience in doterati -- it's a great investment to tap into it and share your knowledge and experience. my plug:I love sharing fun stuff online into a lifestream at orangejack.com/lifestream. From there you can get to most everything I do online and get a preview of the latest content I've published and shared (powered by FriendFeed) something else I'd like to share: I'm always looking for contract work and full-time opportunities to help you use the web well. My passion is in the strategy, not the tools.
I hope everyone is having an enjoyable April. Don't forget to get out there and attend events, meet new people and support both community & personal betterment!
