A lot of the behind the scenes administrative and operational items are in place, which will now allow us the flexibility to grow and build upon our initial infrastructure. Thanks to the board for handling so many of the not-so-sexy items necessary to get us going!
I'm very excited to announce that we will be hosting a doterati launch party at Create Chaos the evening of Weds. October 15th. We'll be posting the specifics next week, so that you… Continue

I love Social Media. I’m on at least five different services and spend way more time than I should on them, but I enjoy it considerably and have befriended many great people. With as much enjoyment as I get out of these services I thought it would be great if could combine together two things I feel passionately about: Social Media and Writing Fiction.
But how do you develop a story in only 140 character bite sized morsels? You could write a longer piece and serialize it, or you could even writ… Continue
It has recently become very clear to me that everyone has at least one die-hard cause that they champion. From your Mac users, to cigarette smokers, no one can ever hold a flame to coffee drinkers. Of course, I’m not speaking in generalities - the group of people I am referring to are your “French Vanilla, Venti, Latte, -ccino, double, -esso, mocha, with extra room” types. Seemingly inefficient and irritable without their java junk, these ‘caf-fiends’ come from all backgrounds. A former client o… Continue

Many of you have been asking about our first event and I promise we'll be announcing it very soon - it's going to be awesome and I can't wait to meet everyone!
Our programming director, Renee Menkova, is also going to be sending out a survey to all of you requesting your feedback and input towards our overall future educational programming - I urge all of you to take the survey and pass it along to your colleagues so that we can tailor upcoming events to you!

My good friend and I started a blog a few months ago about living in Central Florida; something non-Disney and non-theme park centric, and mainly because we're both extremely bored living here. It's called "Pulse of Central Florida." With little-to-no marketing efforts, the blog has actually been garnering some pretty decent attention, and traffic.
Topics covered are anything from entertainment, people, nightlife, eating (there seems to be lots of posts on this!), shopping, music, and mo… Continue

This week's Orlando Weekly issue is dedicated to the "best of" around Orlando and the Central Florida area. You should pick-up a copy if you haven't already; seems like it's out a bit early this week.
Several local bloggers were recognized in the "best of" categories, and I wanted to give them props here:
Woo hoo - we crossed the 250 member threshold on the doterati community site - only 10 weeks after we stood up the site! A huge thank you to everyone that has been spreading the word - this has truly been a word-of-mouth success story to date because we haven't worked on any 'formal' marketing pushes or employed PR tactics to acquire this initial group. Current geographical breakdown is as follows:
165 Orlando, College Park, Downtown
47 Longwood, Altamonte, Maitland, Lake Mary, Apopka, Winter P… Continue
For those of you who may not have heard, one the greatest up and coming creative industry publications, Create Magazine, closed two months ago. As the former Editor of the publication, I was saddened and shocked.
But, as they say, one door closes ...
I have found a new home - though it is not too far away. I am now working on Create Chaos 2008 - a super conference bringing together creative professionals from different realms under one roof for a "create-a-palooza." This conference is a new co… Continue

I know I'm a couple days late posting about last week's "focus group", but I wanted to wait until we had some video posted and my regular job got in the way ;)
So here are my thoughts:
Overall, we had a total seven volunteers show up for this event and I think, they represented a good variety of the different "tech" people in central florida.
Six things that happened with Doterati during week 6:
We held our first official board meeting on 6.12.08. During that meeting we approved the articles of incorporation and began reviewing bylaws, budget and organizational structure.
We submitted the necessary paperwork to secure our 501c3, non-profit status. The approved articles were part of what was required to file.
Our community director, Mark Krupinski, started to see some traction surrounding a
This is a quick update to my previous post regarding the upcoming doterati focus group.
This focus group will now take place on Wednesday, June 18th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Mindcomet.
I urge anyone who is interested in creating community in Central Florida to attend. Your opinion is very valuable.
Please RSVP with me directly at mark.krupinski@gmail.com before the… Continue
I know we don't have a job board just yet and I wasn't going to use blog posts to communicate "help wanted" opportunities, but I just got contacted by a firm who like the talent she saw and I thought it would benefit everyone to share.

Week 5 came and went in a hurry!
Some of the highlights:
Our community director, Mark Krupinski, is forming a focus group to get reaction/feedback on our proposed website structure, membership levels/value prop and other items pertaining to our foundation.
I wanted to take a moment and reach out to everyone and let you know that we are looking for some volunteers for a focus group. The topic of the focus group:
Give the group a nice, face-to-face breakdown of what doterati is all about.
Propose what being a doterati "Member" is all about
Propose ideas for our future website we'd like to build for our Members
You feedback is vital and we need it to make this community work.…
Thank you to everyone that is rolling up their sleeves to get things going. Quite a few people have stepped up and are working on more specific objectives towards making our association a reality!
Our web team met and compared ASP solutions to open-source software for use on our member site. The team made a compelling argument to utilize Drupal for the site build out and started developing initial architecture and content requirements. Drop our web chair,

Hi Everyone,
I felt it was important to start a weekly series providing an update on the evolution of Doterati. What I hope to provide in my posts is what's going on behind the scenes, in addition to what is publicly visible. Feel free to also ask questions and let me know what you'd like to hear about as we progress into the future. Thanks for all of the early involvement - I'm so excited to have all of you be a part of this!
