It has been rumored that Google may have dropped .info domains OR penalized them last week for a period of a few days.

It seems they were adjusting their algorithm to filter domains used by SEO’s to chase higher rankings. You can purchase .info domains for as little as .99 cents. You are also most likely to buy a domain name with the keywords you are seeking.

My opinion (you should take it as such), Google gives more value to higher level domain extensions OR for domain name extensions that match the website content, server location, and website owner.

Example; www.domain.ca ;

• If the whois information holds an owner in Canada
• If the physical hosting server is in Canada
• If the content contains data pertaining to Canada (contact info)

Make sure you put some thought into that domain name.

Had a client that owned a .info dropped from #5 out of the top thirty for their best term.
