Did anyone else minimize their online activity over the holiday weekend? I personally only picked up my iPhone and did a few emails/posted to Twitter. It was somewhat relaxing, but I also felt detached & guilty at the same time...

I'd love to run a brief experiment in the near future where we have a small group of volunteers sacrifice all forms of current technology (mobile phones, PDAs, laptops, etc.) for a brief period of time (non-work hours) and write about the experience.

My hypothesis is that it will be ever more difficult to relinquish our free time to non-tech activities, with the existing technology so woven into our lives.

Thoughts?

You’re preaching to the choir sister! I went a few hundred years off the grid, relaxing but I was falling behind with my sphere influence.

If I tried the experiment, I would have to admit I would need to cheat, to many people to follow up on. I could have my minions do it!
I left town for the weekend and also left the online world here in Orlando. I t made for such a peaceful weekend. This morning was a mad rush to get back into the digital groove but it was well worth the time off.

Now I'm fresh, full of creative ideas and ready for the next few weeks of madness.
Every time I drop off the grid it's the stave off insanity (too much data, not enough bandwidth as it were), so it can definitely be done.

This weekend I was mostly offline, I took in some sunshine and caught up on some writing.

As for the experiment, it could be fun. If you get much of a response ping me and I might be able to feature it on HTSAA.
