This is certainly an age-old question, but as blogging becomes more popular, and a more accepted news/media outlet, how often do you think a blogger should post? Do readers expect higher frequency? Or does the blogger run the risk of "annoying" their audience if they post too often?

What do you think?

I think it depends on what the purpose of the blog is.

If you're looking to become a resource-type blog (news, etc), then it's important to post regularly, not necessarily frequently. I don't think readers of news/resource blogs are ever "annoyed" by frequent posts as long as they glean some knowledge from them. But I would definitely rate quality over quantity as being the most important.
I agree completely.
I agree that quality over quantity is important, but you also have to consider how your readers are going to find your quality content to read. One sure fire way to increase your readership is to be highly indexed in search engines frequently with keywords that describe your content. One way this can be achieved is by posting a lot of content surrounding those keywords. I think at a bare minimum, in order to have a 1/2 way decent blog, you need to post once a day.

Also, you want to train your readership to visit your blog frequently and the best way to do that is by fresh content. For example, if you're blog is updated weekly on a certain day, than you will have everyone visiting you on that day only to read the new post and forget about you for the rest of the week. Whereas if you were posting new stuff every day, or twice a day, etc.. than they'll be checking back more frequently.

How you achieve frequent posts is up to you, but it's in your best interest to do so.
